Advisory Committees

The SAC, being appointed by the Board of Directors, shall advise the CEO and Programme Director and through them also the Diamond Board of Directors:

• the scientific and technical questions impacting on the specification, design, commissioning and operation of Diamond Light Source;
• the experimental and user support facilities;
• the opportunities for scientific exploration of the facility;
• on such other matters as the CEO and the SDs shall from time to time seek advice.

The Members of the SAC are respected scientists from other institutions in the UK and overseas and the membership is published on the Diamond website here.

The terms of reference of DISCo are to:

• advise the CEO and Directors on opportunities for industry to be engaged in research at Diamond, and the best means for promoting such opportunities;
• identify industrial research priorities that will help shape Diamond’s operational strategy – including the best way to exploit the current suite of beamlines and to develop the case for investment in future beamlines;
• develop best practice for industrial engagement with Diamond, including the nature of research collaboration agreements, the handling of IP, and the dissemination of research outcomes;
• carry out other tasks as agreed with the CEO and the Directors.

The members of DISCo are senior industrialists from a variety of sectors that range from pharmaceuticals to aerospace engineering. The DISCo membership is published on the Diamond website here.
