The unique design of the Diamond-II storage ring will enable the current beamlines to be retained but in addition, the new synchrotron machine will allow for up to 3 completely new flagship beamlines to be developed and ready to fully exploit the improved characteristics of the new beams after the dark period.
All beamline proposals have been developed further with Diamond's user communities, and reaching out to new users and fields of research by engaging the community through webinars. User Working Groups led by external project champions have developed full business cases that were presented to our advisory bodies in December 2020.
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
