Luis is Beamline Scientist at the I08-SXM beamline.
He graduated from the Federal University of Vicosa (Brazil) with a B.S. and a M.Sc. in Biogeochemistry. During his B.S. he took a year abroad as an exchange student at the Technical University of Munich (Germany). He came back to the same university later to undertake his Doctoral training, focusing on the application of synchrotron based techniques to understand nutrient cycling in soils.
After completing his doctoral studies, Luis was positioned as post-doctoral researcher of the beamline ID21, of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (France), researching the application of X-ray and IR microspectroscopy to study mineral interfaces, the use of correlative imaging and the application of cryo sample preparation techniques.
Sincec June 2023, he is Beamline scientist at Beamline I08, where he will continue to push forward the use of X-ray microscopy to study mineral organic interfaces. His primary role is to use his array of knowledge and technical skills to drive instrument development, disseminate knowledge gathered from in-house and collaborative research as well as providing support to academic and industrial users at the Beamline.
