***** The call for ePSIC (E01 and E02) proposals for AP36.2 is now open. The period will cover microscope access between January-March 2025. The deadline for this call is Friday 4th October 2024 at 17:00hrs *****
We are also accepting rapid access proposals for E01 and E02. Please read the criteria for rapid access below and contact a member of the ePSIC team to discuss your experiment prior to submission.
Access to the electron microscopes at ePSIC is through a peer reviewed application process which is open to UK, EU and international scientists. ePSIC accepts applications through Standard and Rapid Access application routes (detailed below).
The facility is free at the point of access except for commercial use, or users requiring guaranteed access - for such access please contact a member of the ePSIC team who will then process your request through the Industrial Liaison Office.
Accommodation, travel and subsistence may be covered for users, for information on Diamond's policy please see here.
Detailed guidelines for applying for beamtime at ePSIC can be found here.
Please refer to the expected capabilities of the microscopes here and discuss your experiment with a member of ePSIC staff before submitting your proposal.
Please click here to download the ePSIC science case template. This must be uploaded to the Diamond User Administration system as part of a proposal submission.
Scientists can apply for beamtime whenever calls for proposals are issued. ePSIC calls take place four times a year with deadlines in March, June, September and December. The User Office will announce a call by sending emails to all registered users. Calls are normally opened six weeks prior to the deadline.
Applications for Standard Access are made online via the User Administration System(UAS).
*** Due to ongoing upgrades to the instrument we are not currently accepting rapid access applications to E01 ***
Rapid access proposals allow for short experiments that cannot wait until the next allocation period. Rapid access proposals may be submitted at any time and will be processed as quickly as possible. One of the following criteria must be met to be granted time via rapid access:
Applications for Rapid Access are made online via the User Administration System(UAS).
The microscopes are available for proprietary use, or for users requiring guaranteed access (i.e. use funded through a specific grant). For more information on this access mode, please contact Chris Allen and the Industrial Liaison Office.
