Access to I06

The next submission for proposals for AP38 is open. The AP covers the period October 2025 - March 2026. Proposals must be submitted by Wednesday 26th March 2025 at 17:00hrs UTC+1/GMT+1.

Diamond runs call for proposal every six months in the spring and the autumn, aiming for peer review meetings in May and October. The call goes out to users via email and the deadline will be listed here for your attention.

The peer review meetings will review proposals submitted for the following allocation periods which are set as:

1st week of April - end of September

1st week of October - end of March

The available beamline access routes are listed in the below. Proposals should be submitted online in UAS.

All relevant access routes (standard, BAG and rapid access) at Diamond will be peer reviewed and accepted on their scientific merit.

Resubmissions: you must make it clear in your proposal if it is a resubmission. Describe what you have changed to fulfill the panel's comments on the previous proposal.

If the proposal is awarded beamtime, it is expected that experimental results will be published. If you do not wish to publish your results, please approach our Industrial Liaison Office who offer a wide range of services to meet your research needs.

From AP35, access to I06 will be changing within our User Administration System (UAS). When submitting your beamtime proposal you need to select which instrument within the I06 portfolio (I06 – Nanoscience (XPEEM), I06-1 – Nanoscience (Branchline) and I06-2 – Nanoscience (LaserPEEM offline facility)) you would like to access. Details for accessing these facilities can be found here, or contact a member of the beamline staff if you have any questions.

• Users interested in performing experiments at any of I06 beamline capabilities are encouraged to contact a member of the beamline staff prior to proposal submission.

• Proposals have to be submitted using Diamond proposal submission system - UAS ( http://uas.diamond.ac.uk/).

• Information about the proposal system, scheduling periods, deadlines for calls for proposals, technical assessment and peer review of proposals can be found at https://www.diamond.ac.uk/Users/Apply-for-Beamtime.html.

• In the UAS system, select the following instruments:

  • I06 - Nanoscience (XPEEM): for experiments requiring the X-ray Phoemission Electron Microscope end-station.

  • I06-1 - Nanoscience (Branchline): for experiments requiring the Superconducting Magnet (SCM), Diffraction and Dichroism (DD) or X-ray Absorption (XABS) end-stations

  • I06-2 - Nanoscience (LaserPEEM Offline Facility): for experiments requiring the offline PEEM end-station.

• After selecting the instrument, complete the required fields in the submission process.
