Branchline (I06-1)

The Branchline, also known as I06-1, is equipped with a 6 T superconducting vector magnet (SCM), the Dichroism and Diffraction (DD) and X-ray Absorption (XABS) end-stations. The SCM is capable of delivering magnetic fields parallel (6 T) and perpendicular (2 T) to the beam direction. With a 2 K sample insert, it allows X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) and X-ray Magnetic Linear Dichroism (XMLD) experiments to be employed in a range of areas, such as AFM/FM hybrid heterostructures, magnetism in 2D van der Waals materials, molecular magnetism, topological insulators and diluted ferromagnetic semiconductors. Detection modes are total electron yield (TEY) and total fluorescence yield (TFY).

The DD system, equipped with a four-circle diffractometer, serve as a platform for resonant elastic x-ray scattering (REXS) and coherent x-ray scattering experiments. Time-resolved REXS experiments using femtosecond lasers available at the beamline have yielded insights into the intricate interplay of competing degrees of freedom within non-equilibrium dynamics of strongly correlated systems. Over the years, Fourier Transform Holography has been employed to study light-induced transient phases out-of-equilibrium in quantum materials.

Situated between the DD and SCM systems, the XABS end-station is dedicated to high-throughput, standard XAS measurements with remote control. Versatile sample environments for the branchline end-stations allow the control and manipulation of a wide range of exotic properties in quantum materials.
