    Open a terminal window,

type "gdalog"  - opens a log window

type "gdaservers" - starts the servers wait until s"server initialisation complete" comes up in the log window

type "gdaclient" the client should start.

After 5.30pm call the Experimental Hall Coordinators on 8787. If they can fix the problem, they will. If not, they will call someone who can.

The red ‘Beam On’ sign means the hutch is searched and locked, and so there could be x-rays in the hutch. If you have closed the experimental shutter, you can press the Open Hutch button, and the door will unlock.

Try restarting the GUI: see above (if you can’t close it, use the xkill command to do so). If that doesn’t work, you could try restarting the GDA servers.

That’s the oxygen depletion alarm; it’s controlled by the large box on the wall near the hutch door. Call the Experimental Hall Coordinators on 8787.

You can see the beam status on the monitor near the ceiling.  The GDA software should automatically stop your data collection if the beam goes, and the scans should restart when it comes back. You can begin using the beam again when the "Port" shutter light goes green.

Yes, although we recommend that a minimum of 2 people are required for anymore than a day of beamltime and may insist on this for periods over 48 hours to ensure that the facility is used efficiently. The Experimental Hall Coordinators (8787) must be informed when somebody is working on their own.

This is only a FAQ, so use the menus at the top to find more information. Alternatively, ring your local contact: their number is probably on the beamline whiteboard. After 6pm and at weekends  please call 8787.
