Spectroscopy is a research technique used to measure the electromagnetic radiation absorbed or emitted by atoms as they move from one energy state to another; this enables you to deconvolute the composition of an object based on the characteristic response at different wavelengths. As atoms and molecules have unique spectra, using this method allows you to easily identify them and explore their physical properties such as temperature, mass and composition.
There are various different forms of spectroscopy provided at Diamond for our industrial users, each of which use different light sources to penetrate the material and look at different phenomena. Our team of experts can help you to choose the type which most suit your needs. They include:
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility, located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire.
