Diverse experimental configurations

One end-station of B07-B is dedicated to high-throughput UHV XPS (ES-1). The sample holders for ES-1 are based on a 1-inch diameter “puck” system suitable for individual samples or using large 50x50 mm2 sample platters where up to ~100 samples can be mounted simultaneously. These larger sample plates can also be customised to suit user requirements (e.g. material compatibility or specialised mounting methods).

Expert support and training

On-site assistance from Diamond’s spectroscopy experts during your experimental time, including assistance with sample mounting where needed.

Supporting measurements

Supporting measurements: Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED). Sample plates are compatible with NAP-XPS at B07-C branch and can be transferred between the two without exposure to air.

Dedicated Chemical Laboratories

Equipped for sample preparation and characterisation work:

  • Hot plate, pellet press, spin coater: For traditional sample preparation
  • Glove Box: A dry argon glove box is available for the safe handling and mounting of air-sensitive materials. Samples can be transferred directly from the glove box to the beamline without exposure to air, preserving their integrity for analysis.

Streamlined Protocols

Measurements and sample environment (temperature, position etc) can be scripted to automate data collection.
